2005 Château Beaumont (Cru Bourgeois Supérieur) Haut-Médoc MAGNUMS

They say that 2005 was such a brilliant vintage for Bordeaux that you can stick a pin in a map randomly and find something delicious and Château Beaumont is no exception. It is not only no exception, it is one of the most perfect examples you can find.

Beaumont has for years been a very useful little Cru Bourgeois property but in 2005 it simply excelled itself. It is, and will be, better than their 2009. Extraordinary glycerin and puppy fat makes this wine immediately accessible but in the unlikely event that you returned to a half finished bottle the following day it would be still be drinking just as well, possibly even better.

Most vintages of Château Beaumont are more measured in price, but this Beaumont 2005 is, unequivocally, worth that step up.
