Château Beaumont Haut-Médoc, Cru Bourgeois Supérieur

2005

They say that 2005 was such a brilliant vintage for Bordeaux that you can stick a pin in a map randomly and find something delicious and Château Baumont is no exception. It is not only no exception, it is one of the most perfect examples you can find.

Baumont has for years been a very useful little Cru Borgeois property but in 2005 it simply excelled itself. It is, and will be, better than their 2009.

Extraordinary glycerine and puppy fat makes this wine immediately accessible but in the unlikely event that you returned to a half finished bottle the following day it would be still be drinking just as well, possibly even better.

Most vintages of Château Beaumont are more measured in price, but this Beaumont 2005 is, unequivocally, worth that step up.

In a word delicious!

2009

Well I have to be honest, this is not as good as the 2005 but the 2005 was a freak, performing out of its skin. The 2009 when price is considered is still an incredibly healthy little wine It has the benefit of being available to order in a host of formats – Halves / Bottles / Magnums / Double Magnums / and 8 Bottle Imperials!

This is about 20% more expensive than the 2005 but A) that is 4 years ago and B) the 2005 has pretty much doubled in price, id est, a relative bargain.
