As Monthy Python would say, “and now for something completely different.” Burgundy can be infuriating, it can also be quite majestic. This is a fabulous example of the latter. Here is a wine, so subtle, so individual with such imperceptible but characterful changes. So delicate and feminine and just showing the sheer beauty that Clos de Bèze is recognized for. The Bonnes-Mares possesses power and sweeter, plumper fruits, this is drier and more “grown-up” with raspberries & violets. Violets one associates with Côte-Rôtie but it is a real plus in Pinot. Gorgeous texture, smoky, whispy and something quite ethereal about it.

Drinking as with the Bonnes-Mares, almost immediately; beautifully circa 5 years; drifting into maturity 2025.
