We deal with wine every day and we feel that good wine at a good price is, tantamount to, a human right! As such, we would hate for our customers to go out for a meal in one of London's many fabulous eateries and get ripped off for a poor quality bottle. As such, what follows is our ever expanding list of restaurants that offer corkage to Huntsworth customers thereby allowing you to stop buy, pick up a delicious Bordeaux etc. and enjoy it with your supper. We also list a number of places around where the wine lists are simply so good that corkage is not needed. As always, mention Tuggy when you call and make sure to book.
Andrew Edmunds, 44-46 Lexington Street, Soho, 0207-437-5708 Speak to: Melinda
Almost like walking into a film set for a Dickens novel. An 18th Century Soho town house, candle-lit, rickety-tables, intimate but hugely atmospheric. This is perhaps London's best kept secret when it comes to price for bottle-aged fine wines. Andrew Edmunds adds only a modest mark-up and you can almost always find some wines that will be cheaper than the retail price. Even on a Monday it is advisable to book.
Halepi, Leinster Terrace, W2, 0207 723 4097 Speak to: Kosta
A real relic of 1970's kitsch. With an eclectic mix of customers where on one side you could be seated next to backpackers from Kalamazoo on the other could be royalty. Don't even look at the menu, just order the 10 or 12 course Meze. Even if you only eat half of it this is certainly the best option. Again, after 8pm booking is pretty much essential. Corkage £10.
Le Cafe Anglais, Whiteleys, 0207-221-1415 Speak to: Nicky
Rowleigh Leigh's current flagship in what, I believe, was Adolph Hitler's favourite building in London! An impressive dining room where one could easily imagine Mussolini striding through. The wine list has a fairly formulaic mark-up which does make half decent wines particularly expensive so be glad that our customers can benefit from corkage when booking in advance.
Sally Clarkes, Kensington Church Street, W8, 0207-229-9225 Speak to: Paul or Collin
The epitome of safe, conservative dining in every sense. Very few better places in London to take ones American aunt. Incredibly popular with our cousins across the pond. We generally hold three or four wine dinners here a year. As a special favour to us Sally offers us a corkage deal for only £10.
